Hello again Reader! I loved reading your feedback on the Old-School vs Revolutionary leadership chart, thanks so much! I'm definitely putting that chart right at the beginning based on your input. And to give some background on why we need a leadership revolution, here's a few new paragraphs I added this afternoon: Let’s not beat around the bush - what is so ‘revolutionary’ about this approach to leadership? A revolution implies that there’s something about the status quo that is no longer tolerable, and that’s exactly where we are regarding so much of what passes for leadership today. There is so much bad leadership happening in every industry, and in every corner of the world. It’s not because leaders don’t care, it’s because they’ve either been giving no training at all in how to lead, or even more commonly, they’ve been given bad training.
Over half of people who leave a job indicate that their boss was the primary reason for their decision. In one survey by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), 84% of employees said that poor management caused them significant stress and unnecessary work. Bad leadership is worse than no leadership at all. Why have we been getting it so wrong?
I’ll be blunt. If a leadership style includes any level of shame, control, or fear, that leader is not getting anywhere near the best out of their people.

Everyone is talking about 2025 goals and resolutions, Reader. But FIRST, have you taken a few minutes to reflect and celebrate what went RIGHT in 2024? I know, it wasn't an easy year. I truly get that. BUT it will make an astonishing difference in your energy toward 2025 if you *deliberately reflect* on the good stuff that happened last year. Do you know the difference between toxic positivity and healthy positivity? Toxic positivity says ignore the bad, focus only on the good. Healthy...
REVOLUTIONARY LEADERSHIP Louisa Joy Dykstra Communication is on my mind today, Reader. Yesterday, a leadership change was announced in my company, and I had a lot of feelings about it. But less than 24 hours later, I'm feeling good. In fact, within about 2 hours of the announcement, I was feeling ok about it. I'd like to share my process in case it's helpful. This is what I did, and this is the pattern I always follow when changes happen. Process my own feelings about it. Privately. Discuss...
